  • 0.5 cups cocoa powder Adds richness and depth
  • 1 cup sugar Balances the flavors
Wet Ingredients
  • 0.5 cups melted butter Adds moisture and richness
  • 0.5 cups egg substitute (applesauce or flaxseed meal) For those avoiding eggs

  • 1 cup dark chocolate Used as a topping
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest For signature citrus flavor

Equipment

  • 1 round cake pan Greased or lined with parchment paper
  • 1 Mixing Bowl For combining dry and wet ingredients
  • 1 Whisk For mixing ingredients
  • 1 Wire Rack For cooling the cake

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
Mixing Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: cake flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and sugar. In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: melted butter and egg substitute. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Once cooled, slice the cake in half horizontally. Spread a layer of orange jelly on the bottom half. Melt dark chocolate and pour it over the top layer. Place it on top of the jelly layer and optionally drizzle extra melted chocolate for decoration.
