Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add eggs and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt to the wet mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Divide the dough into small pieces, roll into balls, and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
  7. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pot or fryer.
  8. Fry dough balls for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  9. Roll warm malasadas in granulated sugar.
  10. Serve warm, plain or filled with jam or custard.
