Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
Cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mix until smooth. Gradually incorporate flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold in chocolate chips.
Spread half of the cookie dough mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
Melt butter and mix with sugars and eggs. Stir in vanilla, then add flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix until just combined.
Pour brownie batter over the cookie dough layer and spread evenly.
Drop spoonfuls of remaining cookie dough over brownie batter.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Let cool for at least 15 minutes, then cut into squares and serve.
